Born into
a family of
creatives,
Mimzi Po’Alima Makana Muñoz
I started drawing on everything, including myself, as soon as I could hold a pen. At a young age, I was fascinated by tattoos and even got in trouble at school for showing up with a full “sleeve” I had sharpied onto my entire left arm. When I wasn’t drawing, I was encouraged by my family to pursue any creative outlet I liked. Things that sparked my interest were music and singing, painting with spray paint, oils, and watercolors, pen and pencil sketching, photography, and even jewelry making.
Fast forward to the day I turned 18, my mom took me to get my first tattoo. Days later, I bought my first tattoo machine and began to practice on myself and my friends. In 2014, upon moving to central Oregon, I started a traditional tattoo apprenticeship. My mentors taught me the history and foundation of tattooing. I learned how to make needles, how to tune and rebuild my machines, how to design a tattoo, and the perseverance behind becoming a successful tattoo artist.
I moved back home to California in 2018 and became a licensed tattoo artist. I have worked in a variety of shops, continuing to learn and grow my art style.
In the year 2020, I opened my own private studio in Roseville, CA and worked as much as possible during that time until I was hired on at The Skull Museum. Currently, I’m coming up on two years of working with some of the best artists you can find. I am forever grateful for my experiences, both good and bad, that have led me to this point in my career where I have been more motivated than ever to push myself.
